What we record, and what we don't
Two separate things happen when you visit, and only one of them asks permission. This is all of it.
Counting visits
Our host writes a line to a log each time a page is served, here and on tools.wutheringstudios.com. Each line records the page, the time, the site that linked you here, and your browser's user-agent string.
It deliberately leaves out your IP address. We turned that field off, so nothing we keep points back to you or your device. The honest consequence: we can count page views, but we genuinely cannot tell whether ten pages were read by one person or by ten. Logs are deleted after 90 days.
This happens without asking, because it is the only way we know anyone visits at all. It stores nothing on your device, and the data stays in our own hosting account — it is never sent to Google or to anyone else.
Google Analytics
Only if you click Accept. Google Analytics then sets its own cookies and tells us things a server log cannot: which pages someone reads in a row, whether they come back, where they lose interest.
If you have not chosen, or you chose Decline, none of it loads — no request is made to Google at all. Your answer is kept in this browser only, so another browser or a private window will ask again.
Change your mind
What is stored in your browser
Three things, none of them tracking you across other sites: your language choice, saved as a cookie named preferredLocale so the site can greet you in the right language next time; the same choice in local storage; and your analytics answer, also in local storage. Clearing your site data removes all three.
The contact form
What you type is sent to our own API and emailed to us so that we can reply. It is not stored for any other purpose, not used for advertising, and not shared with anyone.
The tools
The tools at tools.wutheringstudios.com run entirely inside your browser. Files you open there are never uploaded, because there is no server to upload them to. Those pages set no cookies and run no analytics — they are counted by the same server-side log described above, and nothing more.
